Practioners And Trainees

Practitioners/Trainees

In the US, lupus is a chronic autoimmune disorder most prevalent in women between the ages of 15 and 45. Lupus disproportionately affects women of color (African Americans, Hispanic American/Latinas, Asian Americans, and Native Americans), and is severely underdiagnosed in this population. These groups also experience significant health disparities in care and we hope to address many of these issues through this targeted educational initiative.

We will employ multiple educational strategies and involve the public health community, academia, medical, and industry organizations to maximize the impact of the initiative. Our goal is to reach the greatest number of practitioners and trainees in order to increase awareness, enhance retention, and improve patient outcomes to help you effectively manage this often elusive disease. On this site you will have FREE access to:

  • CME/CE activities
  • Online case studies – by specialty
  • Suggested reading lists for self-directed learning
  • Additional reference materials

While rheumatologists often manage chronic lupus patients with established disease, these specialists are not necessarily those who see these patients for the first time and before a diagnosis is made. Instead, symptoms of lupus are being detected by OB/GYNs, emergency medicine specialists, internists, dermatologists, and other specialists. These medical, nursing, and health professionals are the ones who often see lupus patients initially and represent our best hope for early intervention. By offering the latest information on the diagnosis and treatment of lupus and methods of managing some of the health disparities associated with this disease, we will arm you with the tools needed to facilitate a clinical diagnosis.

This site is meant to be a professional development resource for trainees and practitioners of all specialties. Here you will have access to downloadable reference tools, challenging cases, and other electronic resources to keep you informed about the diagnosis and management of lupus and the elimination of health disparities in this disease. Submit your email address in the upper right to opt in for content updates.
